A program of three different song cycles exploring the sonnets of Michelangelo, the letters of Van Gogh and the words of other poets and musicians including Aaron Copland and Gertrude Stein. The Poetry and prose of these artists set to music become self-portraits that help us to gain a better understanding of the human being behind the art. Music of Benjamin Britten, Ben Moore and the world premiere of “Artists’ Statements” by Jordan Nelson.

In response to a world filled with uncertainty, we often expect ourselves to face each day without acknowledging any of it. “Begin” is a program that creates space for us to grieve, to sit in our sorrow and anger, and to work towards communal healing through action. Featuring works by Juki Bansal, Timothy Peterson, Zihan Wu, Hannah Rice and the world premiere of “Leaves” by Madeline Barrett, we will begin to find the way forward.
